Orchids After Hours × Yi Crafts
As part of Orchids After Hours, Yi Crafts presents a series of cultural experiences rooted in the living craft traditions of Yunnan, southwest China, connecting plants, people and heritage through fashion and hands-on making.
Founded in London in 2019 by Yiran Duan, Yi Crafts collaborates closely with artisan communities to preserve, reinterpret and share the handcraft traditions of China’s ethnic minorities in contemporary cultural contexts.
Yunnan Cultural Fashion Walk
This immersive fashion walk showcases traditional dress from Yunnan’s ethnic minority communities, featuring handwoven textiles, natural dyes and intricate embroidery shaped by local landscapes and cultural practices.
Moving through the tropical environment of the Princess of Wales Conservatory, the Fashion Walk becomes a living procession—celebrating craftsmanship, biodiversity and the deep connection between nature, clothing and cultural identity.
Bai JiaMa Woodblock Printing Workshop
Join a hands-on Bai JiaMa woodblock printing workshop, a traditional folk practice from the Bai community of Yunnan.
Using hand-carved wooden blocks, participants will create auspicious New Year prints to welcome the Year of the Horse. Through the rhythm of printing, ink and paper, visitors will explore the cultural meanings behind Bai visual symbols while creating a meaningful keepsake that celebrates craftsmanship, renewal and good fortune.
