"This is a story about misunderstanding and being misunderstood, understanding and being understood; this is a story about respect, differences and similarities; this is a story about today's homeland, about love, and about all of us."

The Moso, a small ethnic minority of 20,000 living by Lugu Lake in Sichuan and Yunnan, are among China's last matrilineal societies. Often misrepresented by stereotypes like "the Land of Daughters," their culture offers valuable perspectives on family, emotions, and life and death-topics that resonate deeply in today's world.

Yi Crafts, in partnership with the Moso Museum from Lugu Lake, Yunnan, invites you to a special two-day event celebrating the culture and heritage of the Moso people through film, discussion, and hands-on craft.

14th December - Documentary Screening &Panel Discussion

"I am Moso" is a story about them and a collective confession of the Mosuo people.

25 faces of ordinary Mosuo people, looking at us in front of the screen, use their own language to express their cognition, emotions and wishes for the world, rather than letting others speak for them; they also give us a chance to listen to their own voices, speak out. We will not only see the differences between each other, but also feel how similar and connected we are.

Following the film, engage in a thought-provoking panel discussion with cultural experts and deputy director of Moso Museum, exploring the themes of identity, heritage, and the preservation of indigenous cultures, and challenges faced by the Moso community include a rare glimpse into the traditions, stories.
