2025 Tibetan Buddhism Eight Treasures calendar

The “Eight Treasures” or “Eight Auspicious Symbols” in Tibetan Buddhism are called the Ashtamangala in Sanskrit. Each symbol represents specific qualities and blessings. They are:

1. Parasol (རིན་ཆེན་གདུགས་ / Rinchen Duk)

• Symbolizes protection from harm and obstacles, as well as the preservation of wisdom.

2. Two Golden Fish (གསེར་ཉ་ / Ser Nya)

• Represents happiness, freedom, and liberation from the ocean of suffering.

3. Treasure Vase (བུམ་པ་ / Bum Pa)

• Symbolizes abundance, long life, and spiritual wealth.

4. Lotus Flower (དཀར་ཕྱེ་ / Kar Phe)

• Represents purity, enlightenment, and spiritual awakening.

5. Conch Shell (དུང་ / Dung)

• Symbolizes the spread of the teachings of the Dharma, awakening beings from ignorance.

6. Endless Knot (དཔལ་བེའུ་ / Pal Be’u)

• Represents the interconnection of all things and the unity of wisdom and compassion.

7. Victory Banner (རྒྱལ་མཚན་ / Gyal Tsen)

• Symbolizes victory over ignorance, negativity, and disharmony.

8. Dharma Wheel (འཁོར་ལོ་ / Khor Lo)

• Represents the Buddha’s teachings and the path to enlightenment.

These symbols represent the essential elements of happiness, health, prosperity, and joy, and their causes, merit and wisdom. They are found in all forms of Tibetan art, including painted on walls, carved on wood, sculpted in clay, and appliquéd on brocade
