Inspired by the traditional Bai ethnic tie-dye craft from Dali, Yunnan, this handmade indigo coaster carries the quiet beauty of one of China’s most distinctive textile traditions.

The pattern is created using a traditional hand-tied resist dyeing technique. Artisans carefully pinch and bind sections of natural fabric with thread before immersing it in indigo dye. The tightly bound areas resist the dye, revealing soft white circular motifs when the threads are removed. This process requires patience and precision, and the pattern only fully appears once the fabric is unfolded and washed.

Each coaster is then hand-cut and hand-stitched, transforming the dyed textile into a functional piece for everyday use while preserving the character of the handmade cloth.

Because every piece is entirely handmade, slight variations of a few millimetres may occur. The tie-dye process also means that each pattern is naturally unique and may differ from the sample image, making every coaster one of a kind.
