Indigo Shibori Dyed Noren Curtain – Maneki-neko (Lucky Cat)

£68.00

Noren (暖簾) are traditional Japanese fabric dividers hung in doorways, windows, or interior spaces, used to gently separate areas while allowing light and air to pass through.

This Noren features the Maneki-neko (招财猫 / Lucky Cat) motif, a widely recognised symbol of good fortune, prosperity, and welcome in Japanese culture. The design is created using traditional shibori resist-dyeing techniques, allowing the Lucky Cat form to emerge through soft, organic patterns unique to hand-dyed textiles.

Dyed in a deep, natural indigo, the motif appears in subtle contrast, with delicate variations in tone and texture that reflect the movement of the dye and the maker’s hand. The vertical slit through the centre adds both functionality and visual rhythm, bringing quiet movement to the design as the curtain opens and closes.

Hand stitched and hand dyed in a natural indigo vat.
